pi day

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14 since 3, 1 and 4 are the three most significant digits of π in the decimal form. The symbol for pi was first used in 1706 by William Jones, but was popular after it was adopted by the Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler in 1737.The symbol means; the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.Pi represents the relationship between a circle’s diameter (its width) and its circumference (the distance around the circle). The area of a circle is calculated using Pi and the radius of the circle. This formula inspired the joke "Pies aren't square, they're round!" The purpose of Pi Day is to celebrate math curriculum, prove that math is fun, and to promote math awareness! 1. Very nicely done, Emily! I can tell that you understand pi and know its importance. This will be important as you enter middle school math.
